HOMEOSTASIS
The Preferred Curvilinear Effect is a phenomenon studied extensively in evolutionary psychology that shows how soft or curved shapes stimulate areas in the brain responsible for relaxation and calm. Early 20th century psychologists even used eye tracking devices to back this theory, showing how the eye movements required to follow sharp, broken lines were more abrupt than those following soft, curved lines. It is this bridge between science, art and therapy that motivates Sarah’s most recent series.
Homeostasis is a collection of large scale mixed media prints.
Using experimental photography and non-traditional printmaking techniques, Sarah creates soft atmospheres designed to mimic the healing qualities of light.
